N50bn given to the student loan scheme is not donation – EFCC Boss

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has said that the N50bn given to Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was not a donation from the commission but part of the recovered proceeds of crime remitted to the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is called Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The statement, obtained via its official Facebook handle, read thus:

“The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, wishes to clarify the reports in a section of the media today, August 14, 2024, purporting that the Commission donated N50billion to the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, NELFUND from its recovery account.”

According to him: “the said fund was not a donation by the commission but part of recovered proceeds of crime remitted to Government. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu decided in his wisdom therefore on furtherance his social intervention policy for people with disabilities to plough into financing critically acclaimed student loan scheme.”

“It is not for us to say where government chooses to commit its retrieved criminal proceeds. However, students loans are very good initiators which can rid crimes and delinquency among youths.
