Mpox: 39 cases confirmed in 33 states, bayelsa state leading - NCDC

Mpox prevalence in Nigeria has been confirmed by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) as 39 cases.

The Health agency disclosed this on its website late Wednesday.

According to the report, the number of suspected cases of mPox reported from August 2017 to September 6, 2017 was 1,759 with a total of 39 laboratory confirmed cases across ten states including Abia, Adamawa and Anambra among others.

Following this resolution by WHO and ACDC that declared Mpox as a Public Health Emergency of International and Continental Concern PHEIC / PHECC , it wants people to understand that there has been no death recorded yet.

Meanwhile, Bayelsa is leading with five confirmed cases followed by Cross River, Ogun and Lagos states which have four confirmed cases apiece.

“MPox” is one of several infectious diseases being closely monitored by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. This epidemic disease outbreak has recently been classified as “Public Health Emergency of International/Continental Concern,” known under the acronyms PHEIC/PHECC according to both World Health Organization (WHO) and Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (ACDC).
