Below 18yrs students can no longer write WAEC, NECO - FG

The Federal Government is making it clear that applicants must be 18 years old, an age restriction that has to be confined to those willing to gain admission into higher educational institutions.

This was disclosed by the Minister of Education when he went on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics. The Federal Government has also told the West African Examinations Council, WAEC, and the National Examinations Council, NECO, that little children should not be allowed to sit the examinations.

In line with the Minister, no one under the age of 18, for instance, will be able to take the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination UTME organized by JAMB. “It is eighteen.

While commenting on a meeting that we had with JAMB in July, What we did at the meeting that we had with JAMB (in July) was to agree that application this year is for enquiring parents because, there would be no admission to students below the said age w.e.f next year. JAMB is also going to introduce the prerequisite of age (18) to all those applying to go to a tertiary institution in Nigeria.

For the avoidance of doubt, this is not a new policy; this is a policy that has been there, policy has been there for long.”
